The first appearance of Chhota Bheem was made in the 1991 film Dussehra. This movie was produced by Marvel and was first released in 1991. Raji Doulat, a real estate agent came across a manuscript, which stated that India was being ruled by a fictitious king, whom he referred to as Chhota Bheem.
He believed that Bheem, who was the son of this fictitious king, could rule India.
Doulat contacted Marvel India and requested them to create a hero. Marvel created Chhota Bheem to whom Doulat applied to be a possible candidate to become the next king of India.
Marvel agreed to create an animated series to release the character and it was to be named Chhota Bheem.

The Chhota Bheem animated series was released on 5 October 1995, and aired on Doordarshan. A second season was released on 14 July 1999, aired on DD MTV.
